The art of listening is a skill. Everyone wants someone who would listen to them. People like to be heard. But listening here happens without interrupting in the conversation. It is better to use non verbal language like nodding while you are listening. This makes the speaker feel like you are interested and they are being understood.

Probing is only good till you are just questioning. Question builds up on a conversation and maintains the flow. When you question it makes you clear all doubts. Helps you get information. Questioning makes you want to listen even more. Limit your questions, do not ask too many.

  1. Problem solving

Problem solving is a very important skill because you encounter small or big problems all the time. It helps you go about solving a problem efficiently. Identify the problem, check for ways to deal with it, look for pros and cons, and take it slow. Monitor progress. Dealing with pressure is to some extent a problem solving skill.

  1. Empathy

Being sensitive to the needs of others will take you places. Sympathy is only feeling bad for another. While empathy is actually putting yourself in another persons shoe. If you tell another that you feel the way they do, it will make them feel better.

  1. Positive attitude

Speak well about your past and present colleagues and employers. Maintain a positive attitude at work. Negative thoughts will only impact your day negatively. Treat others with an unconditional positive regard and be accepting of everyone.

  1. Self confidence

Self confidence is the key to success. The more you believe in yourself, the more you will achieve in your professional and personal life. If you are confident, nothing can break your balance.

  1. Adaptability

It is very important to try and accept change. The environment at work is constantly under change. And if you do not adapt, you will not work well. Learn to be flexible. The corporate world demands flexible employees.
